I was pretty impressed when I first saw the nUnLock homescreen for Nokia 5800 / N97. I’m happy to tell you that now you can get 30% off the already affordable price when buying it via Moubail.com. For those of you who don’t know what nUnLock is about – see the video below.
1. – give it kinetic scrolling, hide the scroll bar and use only as an indicator when needed (like the browser)
2. – contextual menus for the main actions in every screen
3. – loose the double clicking – replace with long press and context menu
4. – when opening the Options menu you shouldn’t need to scroll for anything – solve this by raising the max height of the menu as well as limiting the number of first level options to maybe 8 or the number that fits the menu without scrolling. The submenus are easier to access than options that need to be scrolled for.
5. – sort out the top area of the screen – reduce the height of the status bar by changing the status icons horizontal – this would allow the tab row to be rendered more nicely by giving it the full width of the screen. And if the app doesn’t have tab row use the extra space for apps.
6. – on horizontal mode use simplified notification area (like the browser does when vertical) – horizontal battery and signal meters etc. –> more screen space for apps. Add a setting for auto-hiding the software buttons and notification area.
7. – add an option to automatically change to full screen qwerty when turning the phone horizontal. add predictive text to use with qwerty.
All very basic things but would improve the S60 5th Edition experience remarkably. Opinions anyone?
Sometimes I wonder how hard it would be to re-write the S60 UI and make it more streamlined for touchscreens and make better use of the large screens. And I make sketches.
I’ve just updated the iSearch to version 1.1 adding a setting for Auto-close. This allows you to choose if the widget should close automatically when you launch a search – might be handy if you don’t want to leave the widget running in the background. I also made changes in the application icon and re-sized the N97 homescreen button.
I’ve received some requests for changing some of the services to point to desktop versions of the sites – I’m open to suggestions as to what the correct sites might be. Also keep suggesting new search targets – I would be happy to include them in the next version.
The iSearch widget is inspired by Russell Beattie’s Q Search widget. Russell made his with 30 lines of code – I used a bit more. iSearch widget has a touch friendly UI and there are currently 8 search options/engines to choose from. The widget should support the N97 homescreen as well – let me know if it doesn’t. As usual – if you like the widget please consider making a donation. I will add more services to list if I get good suggestions.
Should this site have a forum? And if your answer is yes – what would be your choice of categories? I’m trying to decide if I should put up a forum but I’m not sure if it’s needed. Let’s face it- there are not many things as depressing as a dead forum site. What I have in mind a forum focused on Nokia’s Touch devices – Symbian and Maemo alike. Maybe the forum could be used as a collaborative tool for some community driven widget or an app or just as a source of cool tips and news.
I have just updated the DeviceInfo Widget to version 2.0. The new version brings graphical display for storage space, RAM and battery status. Other features include displaying
Moubail.com is happy to release Match’em – another widget game for your pleasure. Match’em is based on an old game called SameGame. The game idea stays the same but there has been some modifications to make it more compatible with a touchscreen. Touching the symbols selects them as a group to be removed. Only groups of two or more can be selected. The goal is to remove as many symbols as possible and in as large groups as possible to maximize the score. The game will save the last and the highest score. Have fun!
The next generation Photo Browser (at least in terms of Nokia) for S60 5th Edition gets a significant update with usability, quality and functional improvements
Better zoom image quality — needs a few seconds to load the sharper image
Menu — long press in the grid view to bring it up
Folder sorting in the grid view — accessible from the menu
Send function — accessible from the menu
Image rotation and deletion — accessible from the menu
Better rendering and image processing speed in general
Why not make it like it is in the horizontal views?? More compact vertically and easier on the eyes. I just don't get it. *end_of_rant* 20 hrs ago
I bet there will be a case of the tabbed view with the tabs squeezed in the center because the battery&signal icons are hanging in the side. 20 hrs ago
And the layout keeps changing from screen to screen. Sometimes they are below the bars - sometimes next to them. 20 hrs ago
