IMDb Widget for Symbian 5th Edition
Good news to all IMDb fans with a Symbian 5th Edition phones! Thanks to the amazing service provided by Jeffrey Tummers (blog.thumnet.com) I was finally able to create an IMDB application for phones such as Nokia 5800, N97 (mini), X6 and so on.
IMDb Widget allows you to quickly search for people or movie titles. The data may be a little patchy at times – this is because of the way it’s being gathered. As IMDb does not have an API that would allow you to create apps like this the data has to be scraped from the IMDb.com website. This is achieved by the service built by Jeffrey Tummers (see above). Changes in the IMDb site might break the data feed used by my IMDb Widget so enjoy it while it lasts.

How about an option to add it to the Homescreen of the N 97?, pointless to call it a widget if you can’t even do that isn’t it?!
Did it occur to you that a “Widget” is a pretty common name for an application based on the WRT technology on Symbian phones?
But just so you can sleep at night I’m thinking of adding support for the homescreen as soon as I come up with some reasonable content I can display there.
Hey Tjoohej! This is a great app and it is _free_ So if you think there’s something wrong with it, try to make a suggestion using a nicer tone, not has if you are insulting the developer! Gawd (rolls eyes)

I would if it was possible. The way the WRT widgets are enabled on the homescreen doesn’t allow any interaction with them while on the minimized (homescreen) view. If you click a WRT widget on the homescreen it just opens the widget in fullscreen. Therefore the homescreen widget would be just a very large shortcut
This is what I’ve done with the iSearch widget – it displays a nice button in the homescreen.
Suggestion for homescreen in N97.
perhaps list the movies from ‘now playing’ section of IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/nowplaying/) or the top chart (http://www.imdb.com/chart/).
I don’t own a N97, so I don’t know if this is possible …
Is there any chance that this will be ported to the Symbian 3rd Ed Fp1/2 Phones? I own a E 72 and would love an app like this for it.
There is always a chance for Symbian 3rd Ed support. My only problem is lack of time. I’m already planning for the next version of IMDb Widget – I’ll see if that might be a good time make a version for your device as well.
I’m not the only one with Symbian 3rd Ed who want this widget! PLS

There is a problem with people search. When I search for an actor, it only lists the entries in which he was a producer. It doesn’t list the movies in which he acted, directed etc.,
For example, search for Seth green (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001293/) and the widget only lists 4 entries which he produced. List of movies he acted is more important !!!
This has been answered before but here we go again
There is a problem with the people search indeed. But it’s not in the widget – the widget is supposed to work just like think it should be. It’s supposed to display the whole film history and show lists for movies/series he/she has acted in, produced or directed. Now it seems this data is missing from the data feed and only ‘produced’ is showing. The data collecting system (IMDb scraper) is out of my reach but I will report this to the maker/owner of the scraper – let’s hope it will be fixed soon!

Very nice app, but there is a problem with it on my Satio..
If I search for a movie I get the result list properly but when I click one of the movies the widget just returns a page with “source code”.
What could be wrong?
