Checkers – a free game for Nokia 5800 and N97

Moubail.com is happy to announce Checkers – a widget based game for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and Nokia N97. Inspired by Dr Jukka’s collection of widgets I decided to try and make my own. I chose to port a game of Checkers for Nokia Touch phones. A simple but pretty game – built with nothing but HTML, CSS and Javascript. The original game code (the AI) can be found here and it was made by Kurt Grigg (info in the game falsely states Jaap Scherphuis – will be corrected in the next version). I am releasing this hoping to inspire others to try and make their own widgets and hopefully release them through moubail.com.

The game supports both Portrait and Horizontal modes and works pretty well. Information about the original code is found in the game. If there will be any updates to the game a new version will be published right here at moubail.com.

INSTALLING
Just transfer the game over to your phone by bluetooth or usb cable or as an email attachment. You can also install it by using your phones browser to download the game.

why is it in .wgz file format? shuden it be in .sis or .sisz file format? help me show me how to install please… tq!
The game is a widget and widgets are in .wgz format. You install the game just like any other app. The easiest way is to use your phone’s browser to download the game and install it when it’s downloaded. One quick way is also to email it as an attachment to your phone and install it by opening the file from your Inbox. Or use the Nokia software on your computer to install it to your phone.

It would be better to make player be red or have the wite be on the bottom. Its like playing checkers upside down or inconveniently having to flip the phone.
It would be indeed. It’s just that the original game engine was written up side down for some reason and I never had the time to change it.
ah, okay. I guess if you got paid you would find the time lol but its strange I seem to be the only one that points out this obvious observation

Even I found the direction play strange at first but after couple of games I wasn’t even thinking about it anymore. You are not the only one who has mentioned it but considering the Checkers has been downloaded 47 000+ times less than 10 messages have complained about it
